Lakes, open land and plenty of new neighbors

Minnetrista is a Hennepin County city spread across about 31 square miles, nearly 5 of them water. Part of Lake Minnetonka lies inside the city, along with smaller lakes like Whaletail Lake. Gale Woods Farm, a Three Rivers Park District working farm that’s open to the public, sits on County Road 110, and the paved Dakota Rail Regional Trail runs through town between Mound and St. Bonifacius, which Minnetrista surrounds completely.

The city has grown fast, from 3,439 residents in 1990 to 8,262 at the 2020 census, but it still had just over 300 people per square mile that year, roughly a tenth of the density next door in Mound.

Facing the big lake or a small one

Plenty of Minnetrista homes look out over water, and the lake side usually has the biggest panes on the house. A film of dust or pollen there is hard to miss. At that density, Minnetrista homes tend to sit well apart, often with open yard all the way around. That leaves windows on every side out in the sun, wind and weather, second-story panes included.
