Cleaning in direct sunlight
Glass cleaner dries almost instantly in direct sun, leaving streaks behind before you can wipe it off evenly. Professionals work in shade or on overcast days for exactly this reason, it has nothing to do with the product and everything to do with timing.
Paper towels and newspaper
Both leave behind lint or ink residue and don't absorb water evenly, which is what causes streaking. A microfiber cloth or a proper squeegee pulls water off in one clean pass instead of smearing it around the glass.
Dish soap as glass cleaner
Dish soap is formulated to cut grease, not to rinse cleanly off glass, it often leaves a filmy residue that actually attracts dust faster afterward. A dedicated glass cleaner or a vinegar-water solution rinses clean without that buildup.
Ignoring the frames, sills, and tracks
Spotless glass next to a dirty track or grime-lined sill still looks unfinished, and dirt sitting in the track eventually works its way back onto the glass anyway. Wiping down the whole frame, not just the pane, is what makes a cleaning job actually look complete.
